I installed a new steering box from Lares this week and the pump chirps when you hit the stops on each side. It happened on occasion in the past, but now it chirps every time.
Is the relief valve in the pump making that noise because it is worn?

Belt????????
Have not herd a P/S chirp.
Over tighten the belt just to check it, or, spray water on the belt with someone is holding the wheel on the stop, if the chirp goes away it`s not the pump.

Is all of the air out of the lines? I have had that issue in the past with a new pump and it disappeared after driving a bit.

If it stops raining I'll pull it back out onto the driveway and check it out. Thanks for the ideas.

Got some time to look at it this afternoon. I found that when I hit the stop, the pulley actually stops causing the belt to chirp. Guess I need to tension it more. Thanks Bob.

If I remember right, you were having trouble with that belt last year ? If it shows any wear, I would replace it with a top of the line Gates from NAPA. The low grade belts are just like having a rubber band on there...you can stretch them to the end of the adjustment slot and they will still slip.

Thanks Mitch.
I'm going to tension it some more and see how it goes, then I'll spend more money on belts.

Got some time to play in the shop today and tensioned the power steering pump. Took care of the chirp at the stops. Yet another small project complete.
A little more rain and we just may get to drive it!!!!!
