Discovered cable TV hasn't been run out to the new KS homestead... so need to pick a satellite company for TV and Internet. Anyone have opinions on Direct TV or Dish Network?
Neither one has Internet, but they seem to partner with other companies to offer a lower rate.
I had Dish in the past, and every time it rained we lost signal... That was 10+ years ago, so maybe they've improved the technology?

I've had DirecTV for the last seven years. I have been happy with it. Customer Service has always treated me right. I have no experience with Dish but I believe they are so similar that it really comes down to cost and who gives you a better/longer introductory deal.
You're still going to get interruptions in service due to weather though. That hasn't changed. Very heavy rain and/or snow does it. The DVR units are pretty smart though and will look for a repeat showing of a program that gets interrupted.

We have Dish and have no complaints. Ours will only go out on severe storms and its not that often.

Check out the Dish Hopper. They have prime time recording that skips the commercials, really nice. Like all have said, bad weather still interrupts service.

We have Dish and the Hopper. Works pretty slick and Shannan even sets stuff to record with her phone or iPad.

Our internet is thru the phone line. Is that an option ?
We've never had any paid television service and never will. No cost and no interruptions...

We have Dish and they now offer high-speed internet through a satellite as well. It's worth looking into- we just got it hooked up and went from .5 Mbps to over 10 Mbps. It's pretty cool.

We have never had cable or dish, and November 2012 was the last time we watched TV in our house. We still do Netflix, but no broadcast TV. We don't miss it at all.
Watching TV (elsewhere) is painful now... we're so used to not having any commercials.
Still addicted to the internet though...

Had cable 21 years ago (for about 3 months, until the previous owner finally shut it off <G>) and don't miss it. I watch a total of about 3 hrs of broadcast TV a week - all in the morning while I'm packing my lunch and having breakfast. Other TV entertainment is either Netflix or DVDs.
We've got Dish up at the cabin, as now with digital TV you can't look through "snow" for the 3 channels, you get nothing - so it's a "necessity" (and Nana Ruth has to watch her Twins games!)
We've got Comcast cable internet into the house. Tried DSL and it was crap in our area (about 1/2 the speed of the cable). There's no fiber trunks in my neighborhood, so 1Gig isn't a possibility.

We watch quite a bit of TV... but we tend to time shift by using the DVR and watching it when we have the time, not when it's actually on. I probably record close to 10 different car shows, auctions, etc. then watch them when I have time. Definitely more in the winter than the warmer months.
We ended up going with Direct TV, and like it other than we have been losing signal during all the storms we've been having lately (including tonight...). As soon as cable comes into our housing development, we will be switching to it for not having the drop outs in service, plus faster internet speeds than the phone line system we had to sign up for since cable wasn't an option.
