I have had heat issues with my car since I have owned it only when sitting is traffic, not while driving. It was brought to my attention at Car Craft that the cooling fan sat behind the fan shroud which isn't helping any. For Christmas I received a larger spacer to move the fan into the shroud. Worked real well last weekend in the driveway! I am excited to see how it works. It DOES move a lot more air through the radiator idling in the driveway.
Rule of thumb seems to be have between 1/4" & 1/2" of the aft-end of the blades out of the shroud. Your previous setup was just sucking air from the engine compartment, not through the shroud. You WILL see a marked improvement in cooling!

have you ever thought of a clutch fan set up. Free up some power with same cooling effects. I think I have a couple in the rafters measure the diameter of your fan and I can see if I have something that will work.

I put a clutch fan on it once, off a friend's car and it seemed to work well. I didn't like how far it came off the water pump. Seems to be a lot hanging off that shaft. Maybe there is one that is not as large. I will measure and see what you have. Always good to have another plan.

Glad to hear Chris! You and I were in the same boat, and after receiving my spacer from Mr. Delke I'm excited to hopefully not overheat too. Here's to sitting in traffic like everyone else without having the heat blasting and coolant bubbling over. (Fingers crossed)

In my 66 bbc I have the fan 2/3 in and 1/3 out. I saw the biggest drop in temps when I found out what cam I had and set my initial timing up to 16 from 10. In 90 degree outside temps with car at idle ,temp dropped from 220 to 180. I then had my distributor recurbed so my total was 36 with all in at 3000rpm.
Some are also recommending using a 160 stat. I use a 180 and I think car runs a little to cold in spring and fall. I will try a 195 this spring.
I also loo use a water to coolant ratio of 60/40.

I always drill a small hole on each side of the 180 degree thermostat.

After more testing in the driveway I have found that I am not moving enough air through the radiator at idle.
I have decided to go electric. 16 inch Spal puller controlled by a Dakota Digital unit. Got the fan in yesterday, wiring this week.
