A guy I know is looking for someone to do a full restoration of his 68 SS396 Chevelle.
The car is currently driver-quality and was painted in the early 80s by my uncle Terry for my uncle Lenny who recently sold it to a friend of my uncle Gene. New owner basically wants a full restoration, but doesn't have the skills to do it himself.

I bought some parts from a guy in Hugo a couple years ago who does VERY nice restorations. Not sure if he is even doing it anymore, but I PM'd you his phone number.

How much does he want to spend?

Sounds like he's thinking $20k range... I don't know if that's his expectation for everything including parts or just labor.

Troy's Toy Shop, Brainerd, MN, Tory Johnson, 218-831-5995
He did the body and paint on my Chevelle.
He is very particular.

My first thought would be Bruce Tschida at Lake Marion Collision.

With estimates for professional paint coming in at 10-12K now.. I think you can rule out any professional shop.

Maybe that Maaco shop thats on the south side of the cities that several members had their cars painted at would be a more affordable option? The quality paint work on their cars looked pretty good.

You might check out Sibley Engineering in Cannon Falls. Guy's last name is Jacobson, goes by Jake. I would classify him as professional, he has about 4 or 5 employees. He does all the media blasting for the guy below, since he has a blasting booth in addition to a paint booth. He is a Karl type of guy.
There is also the guy in Cannon falls that use to do High Dollar mustangs, Now I think he just does customer cars. Always takes a few cars to Barrett Jackson. He actually does no work other than buy and sell cars, made his millions in real estate. Both they guys have great facilities and excellent employees.
In my opinion, Both these guys would be a few steps above the Macco shops as far as paint goes and can do everything a full restoration would require.
What kind of condition is he SS in? I just looked at two 66's today, a convert and a malibu hardtop. My guess is the convert would take $30 If I did some of the work, so no longer any interest. I would be interested in the hardtop at the right price. My guess on a full restoration on that car would be $10.
