I am gathering parts to put my steering column back in. The lower steering column cover is broken but the replacement part found on several sites seems incorrect. Attached is a picture I took of my original part and a picture of the supposed replacement part for 68-72 chevelle. The replacement seems too big and it doesn't look like the mounting holes are in the right place. Has anyone encountered this before? Any ideas?
Sometimes there is a part number molded in the plastic on the back. I've had success doing a search of those part numbers and coming up with other options, such as a Buick or Olds part that is the same. In fact, some '68 Chevelle's came with Buick and Olds interiors. You may find that your larger carpet guard is a Buick/Olds part.
Thanks Chris that guy has a long list of parts for sale in savage.
Mitch, I found a listing on ebay for the part I need and it says for an Olds! Guess your right some of the time anyway!
Thanks for the info.

I have a spare one just like in the second picture. It's the same as in my '72. I'm thinking 68 must be different? The spare is from a Monte Carlo.

I haven't had any luck sourcing a new toe kick panel so I turned on the A/C in the shop today and decided to build something. Ever since I removed the old one, the floor mat keeps balling up under the clutch pedal.
I made the new one a little larger to cover up the edge of the carpet. I was also able to route the speedo cable underneath so it is also protected from the clutch pedal. It is very solid now.
Seems like a lot of work for something you don't see unless you climb in on the floor!

Maybe '68 is different than 69-72?
That is what I think. The 67 part is also close but still not the same. I am learning that some parts for 68 are hard to find.
You might try this guy and see if he has the part you need. From the comprensive list he has there, he just might have it.
