In response to Jon H's suggestion, please respond to this poll as to which logo you prefer.
Refer to the license plate thread to see pictures of both.
Thanks!

I didn't intend to make a big deal about it... the current logo is pretty close in design to the original, but the previous license plates with the diamondplate background were very different from our logo.

Yeah, I believe we have a slightly modified version of Derek's original that is the new/adopted logo. Mr Webmaster has the file for it I'm sure. The Diamond Plate version goes back to 2009 I think, but wasn't the official logo or anything. It was done for those other window decals at the time too.

There's no "big deal about it" implied Derek...
A little history lesson here (as far as I recollect):
The original logo (Yenko-esque) was penned by Derek, on a CAD program that either doesn't exist anymore, nobody can access, or the file is gone. We (NCC) had a few electronic examples available, but these were low resolution, down-sampled file conversions. (kind of like a 347th generation photo-copy) They looked good as letterhead or small-sized pic inserts, but not good for anything else.
Enter the quest for new Club banners several years ago ('09-ish). None of the print outfits could use the file we had of the (Yenko-esque) logo. It would not blow up to a large enough size (without huge losses/image tearing/look like crap) for them to use. I took it upon myself to create a new logo. Using the limited capability free-ware software I had, I created the current logo. The original flavor was retained, but the curved "shield" aspect was lost for simplicities sake. During this time the officers also had several sample/one-off items produced, such as window clings, plates, a jacket or two, "stuff". The vendors chosen were given artistic license to create new ideas, and the diamond-plate product(s) were made. (This was also during the rocky-road era of Club management - and for the sake of the Club, I registered my re-creation logo and the slogan with the State of Minnesota.) That's where the diamond-plate stuff, and some of the odd Club items came from.
We're not stuck using the current logo, but it is the registered item with the State (those "TM" marks do mean something). If we/someone creates a new logo and it is chosen/approved, it would be prudent to register or amend our status with the State.
All that being said... my .02 worth We can either "overlay" our current logo onto any background or medium, or someone with Photoshop (or similar) can create a new one and submit it to the masses for approval!
(I am going to stay out of the poll, both as a member and officer. This kind of falls into the "conflict of interest" area. I will go along with the choice of the membership.)
Edit/Update:
If you look at Bryan's attachment in the other thread (the Yenko-esque logo), you can see how the bent Northstar & Club are "fuzzy", the colors aren't pure, and some of the legs of the star are "stair-stepped". Also, I tried to edit the year to '87 without having the original font available. It looks somewhat hacked. This is the quality/resolution problems I was talking about.

I see no conflict of interest, post your opinion with everyone else. I don't think it is identifiable who votes for what.

Can we post a pic of both in this thread, so that everyone is clear which they are voting on?

I should have put them both here from the start to avoid confusion. The plan would be to put either of these on a diamond plate background.
I didn't specify on the pictures that the solid star is the original design.

Actually, I like aspects of both...the cleaner "Northstar" and "Club" on the new style looks good but I like the more elongated "Chevelle" on the old style with the smaller star.
I don't have a strong preference, but if the old logo is not reproducible without re-engineering, maybe there really isn't a choice here ?

Some of the conversation at the November meeting was to do some minor changes to the current plates in existence.
Some of the thoughts were: 1. Have the entire plate covered in the diamond plate background. 2. Have the star outlined in a color to contrast with the diamond plate. 3. Reduce clutter by only having the words Northstar, Chevelle and Club on the plate.
Once this poll closes maybe we can find someone in the club...Gearlube are you there...who has computer skills and can create a couple of samples that are being discussed and go from there. We need someone who can create the format needed for printing. If no one in house then we must go outside and hire someone. It is hard, at least for me, to imagine some of the suggestions without having something to look at. I like what Mitch is saying but it would be nice to see a sample on the diamond plate.
What I like is: 1. Smaller outlined star and stretched "Chevelle" like the older design, 2. Full diamond plate background, 3. either the old or new font from above, (not like the old plate below).
Again, here is the diamond plate background.

Call out to members with a good graphics program and an eye for arts/graphics....
The Club owns "Adobe Acrobat Pro". I can convert nearly any file format into .pdf (which is acceptable by the printer shop). We need someone to step up and produce some prototype designs!!
The prototypes need to be very high resolution, "clean", and photo-print quality.
In response to Jon H's suggestion, please respond to this poll as to which logo you prefer.
