At the last meeting there was talk about making some club plates. I went to Finishing Touch the other day and talked to them as we talked to their graphics folks at the October meeting. They had several options of printing and wrapping some blanks. One of the concerns was a source of blanks to use. Does anyone recall where the blanks came from for the last run of plates that was done? Does anyone have any suggestions for producing the plates that they can share and I will try and take point on following up if I can.

I purchased a custom plate for my Corvair from a guy in AZ. I just sent him a PM inquiring about his source for the blanks.

I heard back from AZ already. He bought them with the print on them. I checked with that supplier and they don't sell blanks. I found several companies by doing a search for blank license plates. They come in 2 different thickness .025 and .040. I think we have the .025, which is less expensive. Price ranged from $1 to 2.50 each, plus shipping.

I did a search and found the same place Bryan linked as well. Bryan, would it be possible to find out where Friendly gets the blanks for their new cars?

Just for reference I went out to the shop and measured a Ski Doo plate I have on the wall and measures .025, the collector plate on my Chevelle is .040. My thought is .025 would be adequate. Maybe explore the site Bryan found to start and see what is available.

I sent Jon 3 links this morning and the .025 is the most popular and the least expensive. Big factor is some sites have a 100 minimum order and others 25.

Information has been forwarded to Finishing touch and they are going to see if the blanks are compatible with their printing/wrapping processes.

Ours are plastic. I'm sure we get them through MADA (Metro Auto Dealers Association)

I have had numerous conversations with Finishing Touch. Here is what they have come up with for a proposal.
1. Artwork should be an Adobe Illustrator vector file. It would either be a .ai, .pdf, or .eps. As long as it is vector, it will work. 2. If we want to change the artwork, they can easily do it if provided with the correct file type. 3. Artwork will be printed directly on the plates. 4. The plate material that will be used is aluminum. These are the specs: .025 thick, 1/2" radius corners with 1" x 1/4" slots in each corner. White on both sides. 5. Cost per finished plate is $8.25 with a one time $25 set up charge.
If folks think about the layout before the next meeting we can have some discussion. Based upon my personal preference and discussions at the last meeting I would like to see: 1. The diamond plate carried throughout the whole plate. 2. The star outlined in white/white/blue or some other accent color to contrast with the diamond plate background. 3. Deletion of the www.northsatrchevelles.com, two reasons, you can't read it from a distance and I think it looks tacky on the plate. I am thinking like the graphics on our window decals.

At the last meeting we had discussed shrinking the star some and expanding the text to make it more legible. Can they easily do that ?
I can bring mine on Saturday so people can see it in person and get some discussion going.

I always like the "Minnesotas 64-87 Chevelle & El Camino club" type wording. Even though that is quite a lot of text to try to make fit on something like a license plate and still make it fit.

Chris,
On our window decal and clothing the decision was made to omit that for simplicity. Too much in too small a space I think were the comments.

I'd prefer to see the original logo used, which was designed as a tribute to these:

Is this the "original logo" your referring to Derek?

Yup. I agree with that. I always liked that but its definitely a bit complicated to make fit.

To me I think this money would be better spent on license plate frames that have the club logo. I just don't see many people buying these. At least license plate frames could be put on daily drivers and people not in the club might be more inclined to buy them than a full plate with the club logo? Just me two cents.

Chris, I would agree we would sell more to club members for daily drivers.
I doubt any non club member would buy anything NSCC.
I don't know what others thoughts are, but I don't see this as a money maker but selling pretty much near cost to club members.

That's all any club regalia is. It's a show of club pride with clothes, window decals, or license plates/ frames. If it's a break even venture, there's nothing lost.

Since we didn't have any type of business meeting at the Christmas party and someone (?) forgot to bring the old club plate sample we should try and get some conversation going here as to how we want to proceed so it doesn't get dropped. There have been two logo types proposed to date, one that is the same as out clothing and window decals and one more vintage like the Yenko style as suggested above. After some discussion and maybe more suggestions of logos, colors, etc we can get a poll going. What say ye all? Suggestions?

I dug around and unfortunately do not have a raw copy of the original logo (designed by Derek, If I'm not mistaken). Attached is a photo of our "original" window cling, and a copy of the current (and registered) logo.

Thanks.
I have this one, it's 1024x681.
