Hey guys, I'm looking for an Edelbrock 600 (1406). After talking with Mitch at Car Craft he steered me away from the holley and towards an Edelbrock. The q-jet runs fine, but with the 200r4, a bowtie overdrive kit is the only thing out there to get the tranny to shift right. Here are my 3 options that I came up with.
1. Keep the q-jet, and buy the B.T.O.D. kit. Talked a lot with Mitch at carcraft and he seemed to steer me away from the q-jet. I don't necessarily think the q-jet is the worst thing ever to be made, but I don't know if its what I'm after.
2. Use the Holley 570 that I have. But I would have to buy the right brackets for that, and the corrector bracket that bolts to the carb, and bracket that bolts to the intake that total is getting close to $50. So I should put that towards the B.T.O.D. kit. Buuuut, everyone I've talked to, doesn't have anything against Holley, but they are too finicky and not the best street carb in their opinions (Mitch felt that same way).
3. Find a used Eddie, do a rebuild and use that. I have a correct bracket (bought it from tci since they claimed it would fit the q-jet, wrong) and I have the bracket that bolts to the intake. Plus Mitch talked me into the Eddies and how street friendly they are and the fact that you don't really have to tune them up much. On-top of that, I could sell the Holley, and put that money towards this Eddie.
So with all that, does anyone have a edelbrock 600 or know of anyone looking to sell one? Opinions are welcome too!

My advice would be to follow Mitch's advice.
Also, you are going to need an adapter to put an Eddie on your Q-jet intake.
You should be able to find a carb on Craigslist. I've been looking there for a 500cfm Eddie but come across a lot of 600s.

I have one sitting here in my shop, I bought it used and never used it. I would take a hundred bucks.

The Q-jet is a tried and true street friendly carb but not easily compatible with the 200r4, hence the recommendation to go with the Edelbrock now, rather than later. With the mods to the engine, the Edelbrock is more easily fine tuned than the Q-jet too.
If you get a manual choke Eddy, they make an adapter kit to go electric. I put them on the 2 carb's I have now. Don't remember what they cost but it's a lot nicer stepping on the pedal once, rather than numerous times to keep the engine running...

Its funny you say that Mitch, I just came across one on C.L. guy wants $100, but its manual choke. Summit has the kits for $50 so a $150 carb? Offer him a little less? Hmmmm....Mitch you said not to spend over $100....is the Electric Choke that much nicer right off the bat? Otherwise seeing what John has in store too.
You can live without the electric choke. Many of us "old timers" have for years. You just play the pedal game to get it started and keep it running till it warms up for a few minutes.

Mine has electric choke and is in good shape. Come have a look. I isn't doing me any good sitting in the shop.
