I'm thinking about going to the Goodguys 4th of July event at the Des Moines, IA fairgrounds this year, but wondered if anyone else is a member currently, and what you think of the membership/events?
I believe Dan W. goes to this show, but I'm not sure Dan if you are a member.
It seems like they are encouraging the muscle car guys to participate with their auto cross events, and they don't cut off until '72, so better than MSRA as far as getting a 'younger' crowd and vehicles other than street rod/hot rod's (not that they aren't cool, but I'm into muscle cars more).
Biggest challenge going to Des Moines over the 4th will be convincing the wife to drive 3.5 hours without AC to Iowa in the July heat...

Hey Stan, based on what you did last year.... there is still plenty of time to add the A/C

It's a bummer for me that they have that on a National holiday. I'm usually obligated to doing family things during that time. I'd love to go if they had it on a different weekend. It's the closest event they have to us.
I'm booked for the Nashville Nats in May...

I haven't put my car in the show for awhile. Probably would this year but I doubt if it will be together by then. We will still go down maybe Friday or Saturday or maybe both. It is a much more laid back Car Craft like event. Plenty to do and see with out becoming overwhelming. Always HOT (Dang HOT)! One of my friends takes his Winnebago down and parks it on the grounds, that is a cool view from on top of the hill. The autocross is set up very well. They have great fireworks at night if I can stay awake that late. Dave and Keith Dietze usually come over from Lincoln and I always run into a Iowa Chevelle owner or two that I know. Used to be a Goodguy but I guess it has lapsed a couple of years ago. Now that Aces is gone, maybe I will rejoin. Have been in 6 or 7 different Chevelle clubs over the years, kind of a sucker for that kind of thing.

i haven't been there in years, used to go every year. thought the cut off used to be 1965. one way to get 1972 into back to 50's is double the size of fairgrounds. i think its the only event where there is a cut off in msra. i could be wrong but i think its is. not a good sign goodguys raising the year are they suffering in attendance. don't get me wrong now a day i would much rather look at muscle than streetrod. sure like driving 1964 better than some older car more comfort. almost need to wear a bra in that 37. bounces the hell out of me.

Not sure when they made the change, but my friend with the motor home has taken his 71 Javelin for a good 5 years now. Don't know if the All American Sunday is something new, but was kind of a free for all of Ricers the last time I stuck around on a Sunday. (several years ago)

I've been to a bunch of GG events over the years to cover them for the mags- never have been a member, though.
I was a judge for the "Street Machine of the Year" deal in Columbus OH for a few years. That's a great event.
I haven't been to Des Moines- I'd like to get down there one of these years. I enjoyed the shows in Columbus and other places. Always good, clean, decent staff, decent food. A bit pricey but quality of vehicles, vendors etc. is high. The autocross events have been growing steadily. I'd like to run the wagon at one.
