We're taking the boys to Monster Jam at the dome tomorrow as Cale's 6th birthday present.
I haven't been to the dome since I was a kid... any recommendations for parking, or avoiding traffic and construction?

You're having Cale's sixth birthday party like years early right? He can't really be six already can he? You better get going on the 69s, he's going to want to drive them.
I would park at the Mall of America or the Fort Snelling Station next to Whipple building and take the light rail, go's right to the Dome doorstep. Or any ramp near the dome would work.
No Sh!!, he's six already! You two just got married, bought the house and started the family two years ago.

Some highlights...
The boys next to "Grave Digger"
Cale by "Avenger" 57 Chevy
Me and the boys with "Grave Digger The Legend"
Trailer races...
69 Cutlas with another car that drove over its trailer and onto the trunk
Local truck "Thunder 4x4" busting through an RV
and getting some air
"El Diablo" 55-56 Chevy body style
Hotwheels truck completing a backflip
"Grave Digger" getting some air
...which resulted in breaking and rolling over.
As an encore, they brought out 2 "Grave Digger" trucks and did simultaneous backflips with them.
...and ended the show with fireworks when one of the "Grave Digger" trucks ended up on its roof.
Pretty exciting stuff for 6 and 3 year old boys!

Did you bring home any Dome memorabilia ??
Looks like they had hot dogs with ketchup too.....yum.

No dome memorabilia... yes on the ketchup.
These monster trucks sure are a lot different than the ones I grew up watching... built from real trucks

When I was a kid. Bigfoot ruled the roost. It was cool to see the generations of F150's as Bigfoot back then.

I was and still am a USA-1 guy, though way back then they were both neat. I'm not a big fan of the newer stuff (the crazy bodies, the immenent destruction of the body, etc), but I can appreciate the showmanship they do. I'd rather just see the trucks perform on bigger courses, especially side by side.

USA-1 --- wasn't that owned/driven by a local guy? Everett Jasper or something like that? I always thought he had one of the best-looking trucks. What kind of work or business was (or is) he involved with?
I used to see some of the early monster trucks like USA-1 when they were included in shows with tractor and truck pulling. Of course, the indoor pulling tracks at the Met Sports Center and the St. Paul Civic Center had to be shorter than when they were held outdoors. And while the monster trucks had the big implement tires in those days, their chassis and suspensions weren't developed to the point where they could do the wild things that they do now.
I haven't been there for a few years but the June NPTA pulling competitions in Tomah, Wisconsin attract many of the top pullers in the country. The NCC had a meeting at Bret Berg's shop a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, it was the year before I joined the club so I was unable to be there. I used to go to pulls in the area when he and his dad, Bill, were top pullers in the Super Stock ranks. Those were the days before they wore helmets and used roll cages.
I guess I got a little off-topic, but that's what sometimes happens with senior citizens.

Everett Jasmer is alive and well and still owns the different trucks he used over the years. I just met with him a couple weeks ago at his shop. We talked for a little over an hour. He still has a lot of neat stuff there, and of course the trucks.
