I turn the key to the "on" or accessory position and I have no power. But when I turn further I can get it to turn over. Not sure what the issue is? This did have an HEI before so I don't think it's the fusible link. I did get a new alternator, but it is a two wire that should work with the external regulator. It was working before. Not sure where to start tracing.

There is usually 2 power feeds to the back of the ignition switch. It sounds like one of them is missing. In rewiring the alternator did something get changed or moved maybe?

It sounds like your main feeder wire for the "car" is missing/broken. There should be a red #12ga wire off the junction block/post, to the alternator then into the main bulkhead connector into the body.
see attached - top left of pic - follow the red wire.
Sent you an email and a voicemail. It seems as though the wiring even into the firewall fusebox does not seem correct. I un-wired everything to kind of start over and trace out. It was not running well before I pulled the engine so that may speak to some of this including the battery not staying charged. I switched to an internal regulated alternator, and I know there is some things I need to do to jumper the regulator etc. Attached files. Could use some hands on expertise. As from the first pic below I located the purple wires, I believe starter, and the black ignition wire. But I am not sure if they are in the right slots on the firewall when looking at the drawing. There is a now loose wire that seemed to have come from the two wires from the front regulator. Oh man taking a break now before a For Sale sign goes up. I can do 98% of the work on this thing, but for some reason and I don't know why electrical is always painful for me...And my brain goes to much. At this point I really just want to $$Pay for assistance to get this done so I can move on. John are you interested? I will pay for Gas, and your hourly time. I am just so behind of where I should be and my business is taking a lot of my time in my quote spare time. Just really could use the help.

Tom, it looks like the connectors for the firewall are completely missing. It appears all the wires were taken out and just stuffed into the firewall. There should be two connectors one that feeds to the front lighting circuits and the other the feeds the engine and sensors. That threaded hole is for a bolt to hold the connector to the firewall. So I think you are on it that some wires might be in the wrong spots. It might be worth looking into new underhood harnesses to make it correct?
It should like this though this it looking at the side the plugs into the firewall. I could find a picture of it from the other side. Might go look at Stans car to get a better idea.
