Interesting. I may have to explore this as well. My hinges on my 66 are looking a little aged.

Check out Palmetto Ind site for more ............... they sell small size bottles of chemicals for resto cars / guns etc .............pick the one correct for yur car ......GM usually Zinc Phosphate med gray ......... 21.00 for small bottle .............. 4 oz chemical to gal of water ................ I used the barbie and a pan that held 4 gallons of water so could submerse all the parts .........get it to 200* and then pour in the chemical keep it around 190-200 let parts soak for 15-20 min or until you like color remove and spray down with WD 40 to set the chemical and take out any streaks they do say do the wd 40 thing a few times 'may get darker' ...............YES it does get darker I would say for 100% correct car that gets driven little just do wd 40 once stays light but pbly wont last long like stock a thin coat
parts need to be bead blasted and grease free. bolts I just wire wheel clean but they need to stay in longer to get full coating ................. not sure if or how it would work on previous zinc phosphated parts to refresh
I refresh my phoshate coated parts that start to look old by spray with wd 40 and let soak a while then wipe off brings back some of the gray color for a while...........
