This is Molly writing for my dad. He has been at the hospital the past few days with a clot in his LVAD. He will likely be there a few more days while they try to get this cleared up. As of this morning the doctors say his labs are "trending in the right direction."

Hi - it's Molly again. Dad's LVAD has "malfunctioned." He is scheduled for surgery to exchange it for a shiny new one. He has also been moved to the top of the transplant list in hopes that he can get a heart rather than a new LVAD. He's pretty happy with either option - and looking forward to feeling good again.

Just updated 15 minutes before I posted this.
Dad is out of surgery. He is resting in the ICU - standard for LVAD patients.
Everything went well. We expect him to be doing wind sprints in the halls again soon.

Moving up to the 6th floor!

Dad is doing great. He is recovering much faster than last time, and they cut around his ribs this time instead of through them, so hopefully he will heal faster and have less pain.Today he was sitting up in a chair on his own, and graduated out of ICU and up to the cardiac floor. He looks great.

Since they put in his LVAD 6 months ago, he’s had terrible pain along the drive line, possibly because they got too close to a nerve. This time they removed that drive line and put it in a different spot – so hopefully he won’t have that going forward.
The staff at the U of M has been second to none.Nearly everyone we’ve met has been sharp, competent, and exceptionally nice. They tease my dad and he gives it right back. They are taking great care of him.
Thank you everyone for your good wishes, thoughts, prayers, and everything else – we are so grateful. We were reading him your comments up until his surgery, and will read them to him again soon when he’s up for it.

The NSCC sent flowers to Larry today during his recovery at the U of M Hospital. I talked to Larry this morning by phone and he is doing amazingly well. He hopes to be up and walking by tonight and maybe go home next weekend. Larry is driving the nurses crazy with his humor and making them all draw pictures on his dressing everytime they get changed. He asked that I say "HI" to everyone in the NSCC and thank them for their well wishes. Anyone wishing can send an e-card by going to ...http://www.uofmmedicalcenter.org/index.htm, going to the patient & visitor drop down tab and you click on “e-card.

Jon, the http://www.uofmmedicalcenter.org link has the option to send the note to either the East Bank or the West Bank of the hospital. Do you know which it is? Of course, we can also use the Caring Bridge site to leave a message for Larry using the information in John's first post in this thread.
Thanks to you or whoever took car of sending flowers to Larry on behalf of the club.

I believe it is the west bank, the address is 520 Delaware Street if that helps. The hospital number is612-273-3000, I think his room number is 612-273-0298.
