Looks good Jim, now you can get in the 10's without them warning you. Is the bar that runs across the car behind the front seat permanent, or just there to keep it square until it's welded in? If it will be part of the cage, how do you get in the back seat?

I could be wrong but I think that is permanent as the 5 point shoulder harness should attach to that bar and go over the top of the seat.

Per NHRA it has to be permenant and it is where the 5 point will go. Plus I am getting a cage and it will be certifified to 8.5sec. Roll bars are good to 10.0s and do not have to be certified. So I think we see some roll bars at the track where the bar is detachable but really are nto suppose to be. I hear Brainard does nto let much fly but RF and CF may. I know they are ok as I run well below 11.49s where you are suppose to have a roll bar and they have not shut me down. give warnings but have NOT shut me down. If we were bracket racing I bet they would shut me down or ina $$ event. What is funny I seen Pinks All out where there was a guy running mid 10s and no cage or roll bar made it to the final 8. On a another racing show or maybe is was pinks all out. A racer challenged the validity an opponents cage. So what they do the inspect both cars and it back fired becuase the guy that raised the stinck car did not pass.
Not sure on road race cars Mike did a wicked fast Porsche 911 SCCC car. Check out the library of some of the cars he did. I wanted mine like the 74 charger he did.
I really like how it is coming along when I get more pics I will post them
Some areas of concern 1) I took up the floor and there was this tar paper stuff on the floor and a carpet pad. Tar paper stuff it out now Should I put some heat resistant sound deadner in there. I plan on wire brushing the floor and painting it.

If you are going to take the floor to bare steel, now would be the time to install sound deadener. It helps reduce heat soak thru the floor too.

We plan to wire brush and piant the floor perhaps sound deadner and with heat shield. Here are some more pics. Any advice on sound deadner heat sheild woudl be great.
I put this http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-thermocoustic-material.html in my '66. I can't compare it to others as it is the first product of this kind I ever used. It is very sticky and stays put once it is rolled. It's on sale right now with free shipping.
Don't buy the cheap $10 roller. It falls apart right away. I "modified" mine to stay together but a better one right from the start wouldv'e been nice.

Some more pics. Mike talked to the NHRA certifiyer and my car will not need a need bar or sil plate bars to certify. I geuss it is because it a full frame car and I am not altering the floor. I did not want to put a knee bar as it would be a major PITA given the way I want to put it in. Given this we elected to install the A arms tight and not through the dash. I really like the way the trunk area is looking.
Have the 72 at Mike Wiegel's in Coon Rapids and the Cage is beginning to take shape. Check it out at MWRacecraft.

It is looking great. Will have a fun winter putting it back together. Will have more photos as the work progresses.
