This is an interesting conversion. Makes it a magnetic pickup inside the small distributor housing and then use a 4 pin HEI ignition module and what ever flavor of ignition coil you would like. Some good reading on other distributor points of interest.
I am going to try this and see how it works in the coming weeks. I have the distributor and the reluctor but I still have to stop and buy the pickup coil. I will try and take some picture along the way.

Looks like an interesting project, looking forward to seeing your progress and results. Do I understand this correctly? Does this allow the fuel injection system and ignition to interact via some sort of control or computer?

It could be used for triggering efi if the vacuum advance is locked down nad using the correct ignition module for that application. I plan to keep the vacuum advance all intact and trigger an HEI module that will be bolted to the bottom of the distributor on the outside.

So I got some time to work on this while I was off last week. I got to working on it and forgot to take pictures. But here are a few of it so far. Everything is more or less mocked up I just need to take it back apart and clean up things better.
Bringing this back from the dead. I killed the pertronix conversion in the 55 yesterday. So I decided to see if this conversion was actually going to work or not. I dropped it in the but no spark hmmm. Pulled it back out and started doing some bench testing and determined the used ignition module was not working. Grabbed a spare HEI I had on the shelf (thanks to kevin) swapped on a different module and oh baby we had spark. Dropped It back in the car fired right up adjusted the timing and took it for a drive. Now I have to decide to convert his distributor or get a pertronix II for it.
Note to anybody reading to buy the pertronix II or III as they have a shut off feature to keep itself from burning up when the key is left on and throwing money out the window.
