Can I drive with a tear in the upper ball joints gear retaining seal?

While I was putting in new front brake shoes, I notice a tear in the rubber seal of the upper ball joint. Not that big a tear. I filled the joint with grease.
What I am wondering is can I drive the car with the tear a little bit before replacing? This is a new joint I put in about 3yrs ago. Can't think of what would tear it, unless it had a tear when I installed it. Thanks.

Yeah, that's no big deal really, since you're not going to be driving it in harsh conditions or going fast on gravel roads. You just have to grease it a little more often to keep grit from getting into the joint.

My brother once used duck tape to repair the fabric on the wing of his plane when we punched a few holes in it when we ran into a few trees upon landing on a lake up in CA.

You will eventually get grease squeezing out the tear which isnt a problem other then the grease splattering around the steering knuckle. More of an eyesore then anything else really, just keep it greased.
