Eastwood’s Chevy Orange #51618ZP resembles the Dupli-Color Chevrolet Orange-Red
Which one is correct for a early 70‘s engine?

Whatever you use wipe everything down with Wax and Grease Remover first besides just washing it. And remember Laquer Thinner is not wax and grease remover. Many laquer thinners especially cleaners are recycled products and you never really know what is in them. You can get W&GR at NAPA. I like to put it in a spray bottle for parts like this and spray it all down wipe it off and do it once more.

I usually use brake or carb cleaner to clean it up before I paint the engine. Taking small brushes to get in the crevices if I have too. My personal favorite aresol can engine paint is VHT.

I think most guys of TC think Duplicolor 1620 is the most correct.
I use Chevy Orange DE1620. Always available and matches well. Which is correct? Probably all of them, depending on the year and the plant where used.

Dupli-Color has two different Chevy orange engine colors. Chevrolet Orange #DE1620 and Chevrolet Orange-Red #DE1607.
