MNmotorhead is a good site for local coverage, though it's essentially just Jake. He used to have a forum section, but I think the cost overran the traffic.
BTW, if you read about his engine build up for the Monte Carlo, the used Vortecs and valve covers came from me.

Pretty cool. It looks like it is $25 to join. Well worth it for just this event.

Steve M and I went last year. It was a great time, though we only got 4 runs in the whole weekend. It was pretty busy and the accident that happened did not help either. But we had planned on going again this year.

i've gone every year. the best part for me is they let funny cars run which means lots of sticky stuff lot different than your normal lets say rock falls prep. camping is $25 at least in years past. this was charged by bir not msra bir will charge you 10 to 20 for a pit bike pass. food is one meal of hot dogs or somthing friday night and a big chicken deal on sat afternoon. they would like you to bring side dish depending on your car being even or odd year. when ever msra has on of there outings like spring picnic or fall picnic they have food. i've gone where there were tons of people and they had famous daves cater. try working back to 50's once and go to workers banquet they have a give away smaller than at fifties but pretty big. one year they gave away all there t shirts that were left over from years past had them on a table just grab what you want. if you think of it they are non profit and make a lot at the 50's you can only bank limited amount have to spend the rest. ssfr is a sore spot with some members most likely the ones who don't go they are saying people join just for ssfr and they should charge a big price for entry. inspection at the track are strict so be prepared, i had been to the rock at least 50 times with the same car that didn't pass at brainerd. i stay at motel with water park for kids the whole weekend cost a few 1000 nothing is free. have a good time though. last year 9 runs year before 26. lots of drinking in the pits usually alot of nostalgic stuff to look at. it is also a voting event so lots show cars.

last year a corvette wrecked a part of cement wall which stopped racing on saterday afternoon till sunday morning. then somebody tipped over in the track bar so para medics had to go there which stops racing, because they had to leave end of track. racing stops at 5 saturday then they party all night if you want. friday is just a party day all day and set up inspections to. there is a cut off day on joining the club.

If you got that figure off their website, it is obsolete. Chris P and I joined last year for $25. Renewal for this year is $35 and I read a new member cost is around $60.
Yes, plenty of people upset about the increase in membership costs and this event seems to be a major source of irritation.

Our last MSRA renewal in Oct. was $35 and I was unaware of the camping cost. I drove back home Sat. Some of the guys that I was with said they camped for nothing. As far as the motel cost, they vary in cost. Summer is their peak season. Maybe a different camp ground, motel or home??? As far as not having enough runs, when I went in 2010 I went down the track 3 times between 10 am and 3 pm and didn't have any trouble getting through inspections. In fact, the only thing they had a problem with was my shorts. It was my first time down a track. I had to go to fleet farm to buy a pair of jeans. I'll be talking to Gordy again later about the dates. I did ask him about how long you had to be a member for qualifying for this event because I do remember there being a deadline. He said that it was not a big deal. I'll ask again and post it with the date after talking to him again.

O.k., so I'm not losing my mind... I thought I heard the annual dues were around $25-35, but checked the Nov. Line Chaser that Chad gave me, and it is $60 for new members this year.
So, if I'm looking at the calendar right, this would be Aug. 24th & 25th?

Looks like Frank is always breaking something on his car! I can compare SSFR (along with back to the 50's) to what Christmas was like as a child. You wait all year for that one weekend and as soon as it's over you can't stop thinking about next year. Just plain awesomeness!

That's how much I spent at Rock Falls for the entry fee for 1 day of racing. The MSRA membership has other benefits as well.

brainerd was a great time besides my car not working right. its 35 if member or 60 to join non member now. they raised it this year because like anything else they are losing money. They could drop the free meal up there because it was not worth the wait in line. camping was free if you told them you were not camping. We payed the 20 bucks. It was a great weekend.

Frank, were the axles stock? Did you have a locker or a posi in the diff?
frank said

its a posi with moser axles they were 28 spline. its the splines that are twisted pretty good. going with 31 spline now. its mostly street driven so don't have spools or anything. it hooks good, ssfr has funny cars running so you get in my opinion the best traction of the year.

i would have to look it up had dyno done at st. paul automotive hp was like 330 rear wheels. further checking differential the whole thing is junk gears broke housing crack. housing was most likely what started it all. weird thing is i drove it to hastings like that for the last night. did a few big burnouts to. bad thing about taking exhaust off for strip you can't hear when something is bad. i put exhaust on to go to car show thats when i heard the noise in rear. if it wasn't for that car show i would have went to strip like that. and chris i was serious at rock falls.

It broke the case too? Wow. Was it a stock 9 inch that you cut and welded brackets on to make fit or an aftermarket one? Ive never heard of a case breaking from stress like that before.
I knew you were serious. I dont have any real drag race expierence so I was way too chicken to try that in someone elses car. Not to mention a car that puts some nice times up. It is pretty cool that you offered though.
