Tossing an idea out there for EFI ? Anyone done it thought about it ?

Has anyone done or thought about doing EFI to SBC or BBC before. After running my car today it has a bad attitude with the colder air until warmed up which takes awhile. I really got to thinking about it more seriously. I love the idea of EFI car stays in tune, runs a lot better, and actually see MPG gain. I like al those things especailly running optimal all the time. Less headaches and engine will be a lot happier. I have bungs in both my headers ready for O2 sensors to leave my options open for the future.
I was curious if anyone has done it or considiered ? What is the best patht to take ? I see lots of kits out there how do you know where to start ?
I see many going to the LSI path and that is nice but I already have a built engine that puts out more then enough for me. I chatted with Edelbrock for awhile and the tech is there EFI guy and he syas he has a system on his 1400HP super charged car running 15# boost that he drives on the street. purrs like a kitten at 900RPM. When he ran it with a carb he claimed it would idle rough at 1200RPM. Are these systems still good with agressive cams ?

With big cams idle tuning can be very hard. If the motor has very little vacuum the computer is going to think the engine is under heavy load and want to pour the fuel into it.
The Edelbrock guys example is not very good as a supercharger motor does not want lots of cam overlap or you bleed off all the boost pressure so his cam I'm sure is pretty tame. Plus lots of boost make a small motor seem much bigger.
Not saying it can't be done just may be very hard to get it tuned correctly.
This is a link for a TPI build with a Fast control module came off the Dyno at a 458 HP and 534 TQ it would be a killer on the street. I have one sitting in the shed with the Holley Stealth Ram that sat and idled at the dyno like nothing and made 450HP 465TQ that is on pump gas and will be hooked to a 700R4.

67SS helped me with my EFI swap. I had a carbureted 400hp sbc with a stock short block and vortec heads. I put the Stealth Ram intake on mine and we re-purposed most of the other parts from other GM vehicles. It idels nicely and runs well. The biggest thing is thinking about the whole package. What do you ahve now? On Team Chevelle under the Performance section, there's a sub section just for EFI. Doug F is in the business and helps many people with EFI questions. He's a good resource too.
I've been thinking about this too for awhile, which led me to the LSX idea for about the same money. So far, the cheapest way to add EFI to my big block I think is around $1500-2000. About the same as converting to an LS engine, but I haven't done the complete comparison yet.

I'm changing the TBI on my wifes Camaro over to TPI just to get more HP and TQ out of it. Also helps I have nearly all the parts to get it done and a volunteer to help on this conversion.
I made a call and found a stand alone EFI for you if you like that was installed and never run other then in the garage. It is a Boss 1200 CFM unit that was the precursor I was told to the new Fast unit. This is the style that bolts on the manifold and looks like a carb, has the ecu and software to tune. Comes with everything and will work with turbo or blowers, price is in the $1200-$1500 range let me know if your in the market.

His car was a 540 horse 406...If you have more than 9" vacuum at idle they work.. This is what Im thinking of running on the Astre when its done.
