That's a 7 hour round trip at 466 miles. At least 20 gallons of gas at $4/gallon is $80. What the heck is this SMALL part that you can't have shipped to your door for less than $80.00....

I’m the one that normally counts pennies. This will be a day trip with the Mustang; Angie and I may spend the night and look at some property in Iowa.

Actually yes, I think moving South 200-250 miles would add at least one month to fall and one month to spring, taking at least two months out of winter.
But the trip has morphed into more than just a parts pickup now, it’s become a weekend get away with a stop in Iowa City as well.

After living in four different locations in SD, IA and MN, I have come to the conclusion that every 100 miles adds one week to fall and spring. In addition, every 200 miles seems to give a significant reduction in snow.

One thing I have noticed is that the majority of major storms does like to swing south of the cities. We have missed a lot of storms that everyone from Rochester down ended up getting.

Tax savings in Ohio would be over 5K per year plus more fall more spring. Need to check out the taxes in Iowa next.

May as well visit the Amana Colonies while that close to Iowa City...
I drove regional OTR in IA for 8 years and they get a LOT of ice storms thru the center of the state. If you look for land there, go as far south as possible, maybe even into northern MO. There's nothing there to support an economy and the land is cheap.

The 1 month of Fall and 1 month earlier of Spring is the biggest thing we miss moving here from Nebraska. We don't miss the humidity there (other than this summer in MN...) and they do get more ice storms in NE.
Taxes are lower, but nothing to do there...

At one time I swore I'd move to SE Ohio near the WV border... met my wife and never left.
I fell in love with that area when our Suburban broke down on our way to a Model T tour in Virginia. Beautiful scenery, mild winters, and not one damn mosquito anywhere. It also may have helped that I was 17 and every girl I saw was cute.
Jenna and I have talked about leaving this area, but we're not sure we want to be away from family, especially now with kids. That's the only thing keeping us here...

I've traveled thru that area in my Pete and it IS beautiful !!! We dream of a better climate too but the reality is the areas that we find beautiful have little economy or jobs to support our level of comfort. And anyone who has seen my shop knows it would take 2 semis trailers and 1 car hauler just to empty it, let alone the house...

I'd move almost anywhere for a good job. It seems like if you have a good job and are making good money, everything will work out somehow.
