I had the engine apart this winter. Was wondering if it was a good Idea to re-torque the head bolts? Thanks

I don't think it's necessary but you could put that on your winter list to give you something to do...

Yup, I need to start a list of winter projects. I just notice a little carbon leakage on the passenger side front pad. Not much. Thought maybe I should recheck the torque. Everwhere else all around where the heads meet the block looks good.

If it's truely carbon and not dirt on an oil film, then I would re-torque. If the gasket is already leaking, it may be too late to save it. If that head is loose, it could be the source of your oily starter.

I really don't know what it is, it's kind of a little dirty, it wipes off with a rag. Does that mean it is one or the other? It is on the front pad, not at the back where the starter is.

I'm thinking it's oil film. Carbon usually takes work or chemicals to remove.
