Dyno results for my 57 Chevy motor are in. I picked it up today. A little less then expected because of a cam phaser issue. About 10 hp on top end. They said I should not twist it that high with stock cast pistons and rod bolts anyways. Rev limiter set at 6400 rpm now. See attached dyno sheet. 400 plus torque from 3300 to redline.
468.7 HP @ 5800 rpm
453.9 Torque @ 4800 rpm.

That is so close to the numbers I had it is scary. Where did you dyno that thing and what did you do for the ECU tune? Since you will have yours running before I get anything going can I have a ride? :D

Very impressive for such a "stock" engine!

I am happy with the numbers it came up with for basically a cam, valve springs and a ECU tune. Motor was 352hp stock, so a 117 hp improvment. I had the dyno and ecu tune done at Swankee engines in Springfield, MN. They have been at Back to 50's and Car Craft with a display for sure two years. I will give you a ride Dave if mine is going before yours. The big hold up will be the cost of paint.

Wow! Those are some great numbers Brad. I think this shows how awesome these LS engines are. Just a cam and tune gets you 117 hp! Makes me wonder what HP numbers a person could get with just an ECU tune?

Those are very good numbers. What did you think of Swankee Engines? Was it a guy named Mark doing the tuning? I bought some parts from him a couple a years ago and he said he was their tuner. I bought the HP tuners software, but with the limited time I have to work with it, I debate if I should let someone else do it.

Steve,
Mark at Swankee did do the tuning. Seemed to know what he was doing. They are about as costly as TPIS to do a tune so if you have the software already I would play with that. Can you back load it with another motors tune thats kinda a similar to yours and adjust form there???? I know nothing about that stuff??

Steve, the guy who did the tune on my EFI system was having a blast doing it. He is a code writer and a motor head, he took the software and PC played with it and when we got to the dyno he was all over it. I took the closest base map to my set-up and he tuned from there, adding a fatter mixture from the start and then doing a fine tune. He did explain things that did go over my head at first then later I understood them. It is one of those "Now I understand it moments I get" when we got toward the end of the session at R&R. I can get ahold of him if you like he loved doing it and Ron at the Dyno liked working with him.
