Had my first, mechanical issue leaving me stranded for a while?

Made it through the parade today without issue, no overheating, car ran great all through the parade. Got a lot of "nice car", "do a burnout", etc. After the parade was out, I went strait to Anoka to pick up my son, who has a 3 day pass, before he ships to Fort McCoy. Picked him up at the Armory, stopped for lunch and within a mile of leaving after lunch, car just died on Hwy 10 in Ramsey.
I was able to roll into the parking lot of the Polaris/Skidoo dealer, and see what was going on. Seemed like it ran out of fuel, still had over 1/2 tank so I bought 3 gallons from them, put it in the tank (still learning my gauge, is it accurate or not?). Didn't seem to help, so borrowed some tools and cracked open the fuel line to see if I had fuel? It did so tightnened it up again, it would start and die immediately. Open the line, removed the fuel filter, checked it, it was fine? Had the wife crank it over with the line open at the outlet of the pump and nothing?
Guy from Princeton stopped (has 1969 Chevelle as well, hit him up to join the club), and we ran to Napa, got a new pump, installed it, started right up and drove it home.
Curious why my Holley mechanical with less than 400 miles would crap out so soon. I tryed to pump the lever by hand and could not budge it at all?
Upside, was able to get off highway, met another potential club member, <$50 fix. Was able to get moving before the rain clouds opened up, and didn't have to have it towed.

WOW nice... It is amazing how things work out. Funny it happens a lot in life. A mishap cost you a little but got to meet someone with same interest.

Your not the only one Loren. I tagged with Craig S. to Stans and then to Hastings today. On the way back from Hastings. Craigs car started backfiring again like it did at the picnic last fall. We were able to nurse it back to Stans since he was the closest house and diagnosed the problem. A brand new Accell distributor cap he just installed and never ran before wasnt firing on the #5 cylinder. It was one of thier new corrective plug wire caps. Good thing Stan had a nice used distributor cap on hand to borrow to get us home without any more backfiring.
I dont know whats with most of todays performance aftermarket parts. Perhaps being made in China is catching up to us.

I'd advise anyone who's using one of those "corrected" HEI distributor caps to keep their tried & true normal cap & wires in a box in the trunk.
Craig's setup had about 35 miles on it and it FAILED.
(The "Lei Uew Wa King" distributor cap company needs to do a little work! )

Took mine on its first trip out of the garage on saturday to get some gas. After the fillup a slow turn and no firing, signifying a bad battery or low battery from a non-charging alternator. Spent about 10 minutes at the gas station before a friend showed up, swapped batteries, and was back on my way. Replaced the alt yesterday after it tested bad.
