Do any of you guys have a preference as to which power buffer to use.
Kind of getting tired of using the old hand method that I learned back in 1958 to clean and polish the car. Do I have to spend around $150 or is there a good one in the $75 to $100 range? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Im not an expert on this but I wouldnt use the buffer unless your paint is worn and needs machine buffing. You could try one of low speed orbital buffers I suppose though.

Jim,
What are you using for wax?
I've been using Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer and have been very happy with it. If you have a good base there are some spray on wipe off products that are very impressive.

Jim, I have a Porter Cable randon orbital and I love it. I like it because you allegedly can not burn the paint no matter how hard you try. I think Meguires has one that is pretty nice. I think the price range with pads is in the $150-200 range. Beats the heck out of doing it by hand! Check out the web site "autogeek.com" that is where I found mine, they have pretty good prices. They also have lots of info on which pads, etc, to use.

I also agree with Kevin regarding Meguiars products although I use there NXT Tech wax and not just a detailer.

I will vouch for Wizards Products. We use some of thier stuff at the dealership and I know others do too. They are based in Hamel, MN

Thanks Cris, any recommendations for a good low speed orbital?

Thanks guys. I have been using 3 brands over the years. Wizzards, Meguiars, and Monthers. All seem to do a good Job.
Now I need to find a good low speed orbital buffer.

Check with Karl too as he has an opinion on both the product and buffer.

I see autogeek.com has the Porter Cable 7424 on sale for $125 and the Meguiars for $150. Both the autogeek site and meguiars site have imbedded videos showing how to use the DA polishers.

Just spent the last couple of hours on the autogeek and Meguiars site, looking at all the information. Kind of a lot to absorb. Which products to use and when. Looks like I should get an early Fathers Day Present, so i don't run the chance of tennis elbow or something similar. The kids always forget; I'll have to order and send them the invoice. I Watched some of the videos, sure looks like it is user friendly.
The car is officialy out of the Cars Apart Club. Started it and drove it on a short 5 mile trip. Everthing is fine. Now just a little fine tuning and spring cleaning.

Nice job Jim with plenty of time to spare!
Hope to see you in the Cities again this summer. Maybe Pan-O-Prog in Lakeville again?

The Sears Craftsman ones I have tried seem to work just fine.

Went with the portor cable model. By the time I got the pad and other supplies, I had to tap my fathers day presents early.

Excellent choice, I like mine. The online videos do save you a lot of time on the old learning curve, make sure you watch them. Happy father's day!
