Bryan, the oil dipstick and tube that came with my 402 is a stock tube with a chrome dipstick. The tube is pitted and beyond cleaning up.
Does GM still stock/sell the stock BBC dipstick and tube?
I've looked at the usual sources (NPD, Ground Up, Year One, etc.) and nobody seems to sell this in the stock configuration (non-chrome) other than NPD and they want $50-60 for the combo.
I think a stock GM tube/stick from an 80's or 90's 454 would work?
Is that something you can look up on the parts finder?
Thanks,
Stan

I can look, it won't give me any useful info like dimensions, etc, just availability. Bad thing about GM is that it's only about the exact replacement.
Try www.gmperformanceparts.com? they used to have a listing years ago.

Stan, if you don't have any luck, I took the one off my 402; because it was wrong for the 66. Part number stamped into the stick is what is listed as a replacement stick and tube for the BB with the larger oil pan that came into use when they went to the spin on oil filter some time in 68.
My best suppliers for engine parts has been www.oldmusclecars.com and Paragon. Maybe the corvette supplier listed in out ads would also have the dip stick.

looks like it's discontinued, but there's still a couple places across the country that show it. I'll email a list to you.

Thanks Bryan. I did find the GM tube at Pace Performance for around $12, but they only have newer style dipsticks.
NPD does have the original style tube and dipstick, but it's about $50 for the set. I may end up doing that if I could let go of my 'cheapness'...

Your more likley to get the right part from www.oldmusclecars.com Original gm parts with the white tip on the stick. Lots of wrong looking parts from NPD
Check out 306gm and 301 gm. $35 plus shiping and they are reasonable on shipping. I would also ask for their catalog.

If you deceide to order from them, I need a couple of thrust washers for a posi pinon pin. I forgot to order them this winter. 4006gm need 2 about $3 each. Would appreciate it if you could pick them up with your order. No hurry as they are for a spare unit. Any news on the dyno yet?
Thanks, Jim

Thanks. I have gotten quite a few parts from these guys over the last 6 yrs. Good to work with. Ask for a catalog for your year. I always order from a guy by the name of Will.
Also anxious to see your results. And what kind of advance your are running along with the amount of mechanical advance your distributor will add. Along with those HP and Torque #'s.

Thanx for that "oldmusclecars" link. I had never heard of that place before, but their prices look to be cheaper then others. I'm going to be ordering some brake parts from them.

That is another GM dealer called Modern Chevrolet. They have done very well stockpiling some parts and ordering others as needed. You do need to ask them specifically if the part is an original GM (not necessarily NOS, but made by GM) or repro because they sell (or used to at least since I got something not GM from them before) aftermarket too.

Jim, I ordered the parts today on-line. I'll let you know when I get a shipping confirmation and eta.
I did order the catalog for my year Chevelle, so I'm sure I'll be placing another order...

Got an email on my order status:
"We are out of stock on some parts and will not be able to ship immediately. We should be able to process your order within two weeks. Also, part # 4006GM (Washer) unfortunately has been discontinued, therefore we are unable to get that one. Please call rather than e-mail if you have questions about your order."
Sorry Jim, doesn't look like the washer is available anymore.
