Now we all know that NCC does not endorse or encourage "unlawful" activities... But we've all got stories and places from our past when we were younger and stupid(er).
The other thread with the movie reference and a photo got me to thinking about my own youth in Chicago, and "our" cruising and (ahem) "acceleration trials" location.
For us in the NW Chicago 'burbs it was Howard St., just off Milwaukee Ave. The run was east on Howard from Croname. About 200' past the pond there was this mysterious white stripe that kept getting painted across the road . Lots of escape routes.
Then there was the 'Dawg . Nothing like a SuperDawg or WhooperCheesie and a Coke on a Saturday night.
A few years ago Dave S. and I made a road-trip to Chicago to see a concert. Regardless of the tight schedule, a stop at the 'Dawg was mandatory! Even 25 years later the "iron" still cruises there.
When we went to Chicago for one weekend last summer. We went to that Superdawg. By total coincidence, it was only a few miles from the hotel we were staying at.

How fitting that you happened to take pics of a '66 under the canopy...
That would make a GREAT weekend/overnight cruise...

Pre pro street and pro touring.. Multi color metal flake, pearl and candy apple paint jobs.. Jacked up rear ends with Big McRearys and Micky Thompson tires sticking out the side, Tall tunnel rams with side mounted Holley 660's and gold anodized or chrome velocity stacks.
far out man.. The Cruise areas were
The Old Downtown St. Paul loop when White Castle was downtown.. They changed the streets and traffic patterns to get rid of cruising..
Lake Phalen.. Nice drive around the lake with plenty of parking in lots...
Robert street in West St. Paul.. Late nights in the Target parking lot..

We used to go to lake Nokomis a lot after school and in the summer. I had a Jeep CJ on big tires or we'd go in a different Jeep or whatever else we could bum a ride in. The cruising got nixed there too when they started cracking down on that stuff too.

The Woodward Cruise in Aug. is still on my 'car bucket list'. That cruise has been going on since the 60's.
I've talked to Rick a few times about the 'good ole days' of the Woodward cruise since he used to do it when he worked at GM in Detroit.
It's a 'must do' for me one of these days.

Hey Stan: I was there last Aug for it. It's still un real. From stock Mopar's to Super street. To Pro street. We spent 12 hrs there. Had a real BLAST. Can't say it ever gets old. If you make up your mind to go. Let me know. I can tell you where to stay. Rick

Central Ave in Nordeast MPLS was a hot spot,
Brooklyn Blvd From the A&W by Iten Chev later Zane Ave Till they blocked off the streets and had 15-20 minutes of drag racing then cops came out in force ending that.
Anoka Drive In then they kicked everyone out only to return at a later date
Hopkins then they did the street maze thing and only the dumb kids went there, or if you wanted to make some coin with a REAL CAR on the side bets.
Robert Street and the guy with the Corvette seating for 1 in the center shows up scared sane folks and the cops appeared out of nowhere that night.

Cruised Anoka in high school. Added Wards/Porky's. Also did Lake Nokomis a bit too. After Wards/Porky's would end often went and watched the street racing where ever it happened to be that particular evening. Red Rock, or other roads by St. Paul airport, Sportscenter,FMC and whatever other deserted non-residential areas chosen that night. Dumbest ones were probably the rolling starts on 280 with cars behind slowing and blocking traffic for the ones racing. I never raced my car but watched friends and others. Luckily I was never around the few nights for the bad accidents I heard about.
