I want to switch the insurance on my collector cars to a specialty provider. I was thinking about Grundy, Chrome, Hagerty or Condon & Skelly. Anyone familiar with any specialty providers they would recommend or warn against?

I had hagerty and they were $300 bucks higher then what I pay now with heacok. Have not had to make any claims but getting signed up with them was pretty painless.
Does this mean your car is going to be on the road this year?
You should just take the motor from your cutlass and throw it in the chevelle and just find something cheap to dump back in the cutlass.

I might have the Cutlass sold. The guy in NY still wants it and has saved up all the money we agreed on. He wants to arrange a time to pick it up. We've been playing phone tag. I hope he is willing to wait until the end of April / beginning of May. I would like to get the Chevelle on the road this year. If the Cutlass is gone that will provide even more motivation to do so.

Same here. Just about everybody I know has Hagarty. The very few that have filed a claim say that they are right on top of things from start to finish.
Read Hagertys fine print.. They dont like certain modifications..They dropped me because my car has a rollbar. Ill never go back

I go through my regular insurance (daily driver truck and homeowners) which is Farm Bureau. I have had one claim (hail) about 6 years ago and there was no questions asked and a check was sent to me. I have my car insured for about $10K and storage insurance is about $35/ year when in use and driver was about ~$80/ month. I think this is good considering I am 23. I don't know why someone has to go with collector insurance vs. their regular insurance provider? Please fill me in.

Because If my car is totaled I dont want some clown telling me my used 72 Chevelle with 130,000 miles is worth $600.. Read up on agreed value vs. stated value policies or pay the price when you go to collect.

I've heard good things about Hagerty's. Everything we have is insured with State Farm. I insure the Elky for a stated value of 25K with State Farm with high liability for $160 a year.
I just like having the insurance guy two blocks from my house. I like the idea if I have a insurance question I can just stop by and talk to the guy.

Thanks for the link Tony. I'll add them into my pool of candidates.

When I signed up with Hagerty. They asked me what my plans were with my car and had no problems with them. They have different packages for the type of car you have and what you use it for now.

Continental Western Group, Collector Car Program. I have the Camaro and the '66 Chevelle fully insured year round for $209. Agreed value of 10k on the Camaro and 8k on the Chevelle. I'll be raising the Chevelle amount to 12k when it's done from all the "renovation" work.
Dashboard, your stated value is subject to State Farms determination and may actually be half that if the Elky were totalled. My cars are on "agreed" value, meaning that is what I would get if stolen or totalled, not what an adjuster decides they are worth.

I think because my car has a supercharger that is why hagerty was charging me so much. When I told hea**** it did bump the price some but still 300 bucks difference is a ridiculous difference.

After reading Tony’s post which was posted as I was typing mine I pulled out my policy. When I got the policy I had to provide photos of the Elky to the SF underwriter, two weeks later they issued the policy.
My policy has a “ANTIQUE OR CLASSIC MOTOR VEHICLE” endorsement and clearly states “VEHICLE VALUE $25000”
“Agreed value, Stated value” I think I understand what Tony is saying but I'm not sure, I think I’m ok but it is worth a trip up the block to ask the question.

Almost all auto and life insurance policies go null and void the second you drive on any race course unless specific coverage is underwritten and paid for. Might want to place a "theoretical question" with your agents as to that subject...

M, I know your post is about insurance however if a guy's time is up, what better way to go than at wide open throttle.

I use Hagerty as well, they insured for 7500 as I bought it (based on pictures I provided). When my car is done my agent has given me contact information for a Hagerty approved appraiser in Ramsey to up the insurance coverage.

I have had Hagerty for years. I thought Hagaerty was a very good deal, find it hard to believe Hea**** is $300 less. I have 3 cars under Hagerty and the total for the year is about $460. I will definatly check out Hea****.

My life-insurance DOES cover anything that might happen on a racetrack... It did increase my rates, and there was a long questionaire that I had to fill out about it, but I am comfortable knowing that I'm covered in that regard.
The car... well, it's a risk I'm willing to take. If it ever is necessary, I'll eat any damages incurred on a track... would be fraud to even try to make a claim on it, and with everybody carrying a phone with picture/video capabilities, anyone who wrecks on track would be stupid to try to turn it in... You know it'll be on Youtube before you can even get the pieces picked up, and that the insurance carriers will look for that sort of thing.

Yea the first year I insured my car when it was done hagerty charged me over $600 bucks to insure it for the year. I then started checking around and hea**** gave me the best qoute with the same stated value. Not sure why hagerty was so much for my car, I know everone is different but they put a bad taste in my mouth.

I've got the "profanity" filter turned on. It is an option, and you could sit for hours thinking up every naughty word you've ever heard, and typing in a substitute... I've pretty much just got the George Carlin "big seven" in there.
