O.k., Kevin threw it out there on his tank removal post. What is your definition of the 'Cars Apart Club'?
Here's my definition: Enough parts have been removed to make it non-driveable or legal on the street. i.e. No fuel tank, transmission is out, front sheet metal is off (is driveable, but not street legal...), etc.
Next submission?

Any car that is not drivable for the summer months shall be deemed "Cars Apart" This will include any vehical that breaks at the track or on the street during the summer months.
Example: Member X at BIR missed shift caused multiple rod and crank failure along with block and head damage. Member X is a member of "Blown Engine Club" aka BEC and Broken Car Club" aka BCC not yet a member of "Cars Apart Club" aka CAC Member X removes engine he will now be a member of "Cars Apart Club" along with his memberships in BEC & BCC Member X now obtains new parts and is waiting ordered parts and on machine shop to perform services on said parts. This is now under the "Done Before Summer Ends Club" aka DBSEC additionally member will now be a member YOU SAID 1 WEEK 3 WEEKS AGO! club. also known as THEY FREAKIN LIED TO ME! Club.

So when I had my transmission out, I was in, when I got the transmission back in, I was out?
Should time be a factor here? If I remove a tire I can't drive the car. If I remove the the rear end? Derek makes a good point. If no parts are lost or broken and it can be quickly be put back together....but then there's that time thing again

I would think that after 10 days of a failure or dismantling if it's not together again and legally "cruisable" you'd be in the B.C.C.
A month would put you in the C.A.C.
Considering the talent pool we have in the Club, there isn't anything (other than funds, or an instant membership in the B.E.C./B.Trans.C.) we couldn't fix in a week. Heck, we did a body/frame swap at Karl's in 1-1/2 hours....
There may need to be an extension made for outside vendor specialty work, such as machine shop services.

Seriously, if it's not broken or unsafe, why not drive it some each year ?
Dave's definition has too many classifications for me to remember. I vote for 2 classes. If it's not safe to drive but not apart, it's in the Broken Down Club...BDC and if it's taken apart to any extent that renders it unsafe/undrivable for more than a week, it's in CAC.

Ive got starter issues to sort out. a starter to replace, front springs and a drivers side spindle to replace as well... waiting to get the sled back together and some racking put in then Mine will be apart and probably off the street for a few years after.

Not so fast, my 71 has a few issues and hasn't been on the street for a year or two. Hopefully someday this winter I will get the 12 bolt out and repaired. Pretty close besides little stuff.

Exactly. Im not about to pull apart a car and run out of money half way through and have the car immobilized. The garage I use is not even close to a suitable and comfortable work space to begin with.
Besides, I enjoyed my time in the CAP club in 1998-1999. I wish I had a scanner to upload the thick stack of 35mm pictures I have. Digital photography was still a few years off just yet.

Ok so I don't have a car apart but can I be in the riding lawn mower apart club? I need to get it back together before spring. I have been doing some welding and fabricating on it and have pieces off being powder coated.

Are you building a pulling tractor ??? Why powder coat lawn mower parts... I guess you can be the number 1 club member of the RLMAC. I don't foresee many others joining soon....

Ah yes. The viscous circle of building up credit cards and taking the rest of the year to pay them off and do it all over again. Been there done that, have 1000s in reciepts. I know all too well how that goes. Had 30K invested in this car by late 1999-2000ish. No way I had that kind of coin laying around but Visa sure came in handy to keep things moving.
Money now is a moot point for me anyways. The garage is full of way too much stuff, I am a full time student and the rest of my free time is spent either working or doing homework which leaves very little car time. Garage isnt heated anyways.
This time around I have much bigger plans for the 66. I like to call the cars apart club the CAP club. Cars-A-Part club.

Hey.. Im part of the VSAC.. Vintage Snowmobile is Apart Club.. 6 to be exact..LOL... Just blasting and painting though.. The only thing Ive had powdercoated was my rare original 72 Brut muffler .. they were recalled by the EPA... Had mine ceramic coated to keep it from rotting..

Lets just say I am doing a little restoration on my lawn mower. It was built in the late 70's or early 80's and it is a tank. The new mowers you buy are cheap tin compared to this thing. I plan on keeping this thing around for a long time, so spending a couple extra bucks for powder coating to make it last is well worth it.

If Chevelle or El Camino ownership can be established and the car is not dismantled then that member is in the Cars in Storage Club CSC. There is nothing wrong with being in the CSC, I was there for almost 20 years.
If you have lots of old 35mm prints do a Google search for photo scanning. There are some shops out there that scan photos and slides at a very high DPI rate, it's fairly inexpensive. I had 500 slides done by Scan Cafe in CA. 1-866-745-0392 for about $90.00 shipping included. I sent the slides to them, I think they sent them to some little kid in India and I had them back in about 30 days.

Hmmmmmmm no hood doesn't make the vehicle "unstreetable" so I'm torn here. It doesn't really fit into either CAC or BDC, since it is't "broken" or apart anymore. Don't want to get too complicated with multiple catagories but it brings up the need for a "waiting for Spring test and tune" catagory. I guees if John's OK with BDC for now, I can agree with that.

Not so fast O great gadget man. Blackly remains in the CAC until after it completes it's first test drive on a public byway. Additionally it must demonstrate two important functions. Be capable of accelerating to and maintaining the posted speed on a interstate highway. Out in the country side where the speeds are 70 mph and traffic goes that fast or faster, not where Stan drives his commute at 5-10 mph. Second, it must be able to stop itself so quickly that the beer cans come out from under the front seat.
So your still in the club till after the test drive buddy, may as well start on something else.
Here’s a by the way thought. Can a member simply say, I’m leaving or I am no longer in the CAC? Being allowed to do so could lead to total anarchy. I suggest a member of said club must be voted out by the other current members of the CAC.

Oh I can prove it. I have plenty of witnesses in the club whom I enjoyed driving it to event and event and show after show, prior to 2005 when I had enough and decided to park it. Problem was, I had too much fun driving it and doing my best to work on it at the same time. That thinking finally caught up with me and I had enough so I parked it. Oh, I was in a past newsletter too. Lead photo taken at Car Craft 2004. I think it was 2004.
When an oil filter literally falls off the vehicle after a meeting at Corvette specialties and you consume 6 quarts of oil on a cruise through red wing and back later that year. Both outer seat belt mounts in the floor pan are rusted out so the car never had the belts (which I have a set for) installed on the car= safety problem. With enough little things that I wished were working. It was finally time to sit back and think about really digging in and fixing the troublesome problems that really take the fun out of driving the car.

My thought on this whole thing is that the cars apart club consists of having any part off the car that renders the car un drivable. You can still drive a car with the hood off and its legal to drive without the hood off in Minnesota so I wouldnt count that personally. Anything from doing a simple brake job in an afternoon to a full blown frame off qualifies. Even if your only part of the CaP (it will catch on) club for one afternoon or the next 3 years.

Im fine with being a part of the CSC or shouldnt it be CIS club for Cars-In-Storage? At least then I can move the thing when I need to. It would only take me a few hours to get it running again anyways. Its really only long term storage at this point. The same type of thing you typically do to a car thats been sitting for years.
I dont even have enough places to put all the parts if I take apart the car anyways. Let alone risking loosing a part here and there that I took off the car. Even if I did bag it and tag it.

When an oil filter literally falls off the vehicle after a meeting at Corvette specialties and you consume 6 quarts of oil on a cruise through red wing and back later that year. Both outer seat belt mounts in the floor pan are rusted out so the car never had the belts (which I have a set for) installed on the car= safety problem. With enough little things that I wished were working. It was finally time to sit back and think about really digging in and fixing the troublesome problems that really take the fun out of driving the car.
