I got the console out, so the rear carpet is totally out. Out came the tarpaper. I vacuumed up the little chunks and dirt. NICE! I took off the armrests and stopped short:

This is the passenger side. There was no water shield. This is also the side with the small rust hole at the rocker panel and bubbles on the wheelwell.

Obviously it isn't 100% necessary since it's been that way for 20+ years, but should I (eventually) replace it? The regulator works, but hasn't worked very well. I was going to look into that and I guess now is a good time too.

Also, I was thinking about POR-15'ning the floor, but with it being basically new, is it really worth it? I will be putting Hushmat down regardless. Also, anyone have some extra black rear seat belts?

See if you can find a donor car and get that chunk extra large and weld it back in. A small spot blaster "sand blaster" can clean up the rust and you can hit it with POR15 then. Adhesives do like fresh paint to stick to as the solvents come out of the paint they bite into the adhesive making for a great bond.

Looks like it was hit in the pillar, they cut out that inner structure to pound it back out.

Yep, Chris is right, it took a major hit in the pillar and some hack cut out the brace to get at it. Get a cut-off and have it welded in. You want that triangular brace for structural integrity. I will see if my black belts are still in the '70 when I look at the panels/arm rests. It may have good windlace ( door jam edging) too.

I did the POR on my floor when I had it apart. Even with the sound proofing, etc. on the floor I felt there would always be condensation and the POR would stop it from doing any damage. Easy to do and pretty cheap to do while it is already apart.

Even "back in the day" when standards were much lower, that was a TOTAL HACK JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Karl

Bryan, if your backseat is still out do you want to take a measurement for me? I replaced my rear seat floor pan last year and lost the measurement seat for the brackets. i need rough measurements where the brackets that hold the bottom of the back seat down are located. Thanks
