Haven't gotten as fancy (or efficient) as Stan or Pushrod...
I've got the old 220V electric wall heater/fan from our sunporch out in the garage. It'll get the room up to workable, but the floor and steel is still frigid.
When the ambient is 20 or colder it's a losing battle out there - There's no attic insulation (yet), and the unit's just too small for the job.
(It also makes me best friends with Exel Energy!)

I insulated 2 years ago, well worth my effort. Last spring, I caulked all the seams since I did plywood ceiling (w/o a lift or help so there's lots of seams and a couple little gaps), and it's a lot better. This fall, I sold my big contractor's LP heater and switched to electric. I have 2 1500watt ones on the ceiling pointed towards the main working space (though I think they'll be going on swivels for more usefulness) and I plugged in 2 tabletop 1500 watters yesterday. I wasn't toasty but this morning I remembered not thinking about being cold in my thin work uniform pants and a sweatshirt. My hands weren't cold and NOTHING had the "cold sweats" either.

I can bring my shop up to 70° if I want in a short time but, like John, Xcel is the beneficiary of that. I'll wait till Monday and the warmer temps.

I have an electric 220V also... it heats it OK, but I hate paying the electric bill when I use it.

Without any decent insulation in our garage. It seems pointless to heat it and have it just go right out again.

Emailed with my sisters in Lincoln, NE this a.m., and they are supposed to get 9" of snow today with lots of blowing snow. I'd rather have the cold today then messing with a white out! At least the sun is shining here and I'm going out to the toasty cave now to finish cleaning up parts for painting!

Alright... I've had enough.
Went to clear off Mzzz. Nature's last little reminder and the gas can was empty. No big deal you say??
What this means to me is that I've used FIVE GALLONS of fuel so far this season to keep the white cr... stuff off the driveway.
(I usually go an entire season on one can)

I use a radiant heater from Menards that hangs from the ceiling to warm the area around the front of the car and work benches on either side, it is 110 volt, warms my back and doesn't blow fuses. I use a kerosene burning salamander to heat the space in my single car garage. I also have an old chunk of carpet more in the center for when I am laying down there, it gets changed out a couple times a year.

Just think John, I was told to bring 5 gal. of gas for the dyno runs on the big block. THAT's how much gas you've used!
I usually use 1 gal. of gas per winter for my 2 cycle snowthrower. So far this year I've used 3 gallons...

Darren-I think we use the same heaters. I have 2 hanging and 2 others if I need more mobile heat. The fans are on swivels for summer. Been decent to strip the interior out of my car and stuff. Yes, there's a catr back there somewhere too.
