Hopefully you did something fun like tear apart a motor or something!

Ya- Thanks guys! It was one I'll not soon forget.
The PLAN was- have some friends over, enjoy some pot roast and raspberry pie, and watch the Pacquaio/Margarito fight on PPV (I'm a huge boxing fan, btw).
So, we wake up to 10 inches of snow, and about noon, the power goes out. We figure it'll be back on in a couple hours or less...no big deal. I (finally) switch the riding mower over to snow blower configuration and get the driveway cleared out. Not exactly what I'd planned, but it had to be done.
Then, the wife calls Excel and they say it won't be on until tomorrow (Sunday) at the earliest. Well...the plans are shot. No heat, water, etc. We call the hotel where the wife works and get a room. We call the friends and cancel, and ask if they can watch the dogs overnight. Luckily, they can.
So we went to a nice hotel, had dinner at Ruby Tuesdays, and watched crime shows on TLC.
But, we were together, safe, and warm. Not exactly the day I planned, but one I won't soon forget. My 44th year of existence may have gotten off on the wrong foot, but the power was on when we came home after breakfast Sunday AM, and life returned to normal pretty quickly.
...and my friends gave me that raspberry pie when I picked up the dogs. It was mighty tasty...!
When I put my 3 yr-old down for her nap today, she surprised me by singing "Happy Birthday". In all the changes of plan, it'd been completely forgotten. I didn't even miss it. But when that little girl sang to me with all her heart, the day (and the weekend) got a LOT better. Kinda cool how that works. I won't be forgetting this one any time soon.

Sounds like you got the best gift possible... the unconditional love of your daughter.
Gotta love em' at that age. That was my favorite time with my kids. They were a handful, but Mom & Dad are the center of their universe at that age.

Happy belated Birthday and glad the weekend turned out OK. Just one other thing....get a generator. When you have your own well, it's a necessity, not a luxury.

A generator is on the list.
After last weekend, it moved up the list quite a few spots. We'll have one within a year.
Hope you had a great day!
