My air cleaner was having fitment problems with the serp belt swap. The waterneck and hose sat too high for the filter to nicely sit on the throttle body so I had it cinched tightly on there but akwardly and it was pinching the bottom pretty bad.
While out in the garage today, I found a piece I had bought to mock up a ram air setup down the road. It's a factory air horn for a Camaro or Vette (I forget) and was used between the TB and the factory air cleaner box that was mounted on the core support. I put that on the TB and saw that I could fit a shorter round filter on the end, maybe just having to make a cap on the front face. A little light bulb went off and I shoved the K&N unit I had over the round end. It sat in kinda far and would have blocked airflow, so I cut it off and tightened it down. bad cell phone pics, but it does the job I needed and looks decent. It rests over the radiator hose and is plenty far from the belt.

FWIW, the TPI throttle-bodies have the same size oval opening as the LT1 throttle bodies, so an elbow off a Camaro would fit... looks like your alternator would be in the way to route it into the front left corner though.

Derek- yeah, I was thinking about going that way before I did the serp swap. The thing holding me back was the $75 or so price tag for that elbow.
As it is, I don't think I can make an effective cold air intake for the filter to be somewhere else either-between the belt and hose, the only way to go is down and it would have to be a pretty small tube. I might opt for a better spacer than this plastic corrugated thing I have now, but that's not a necessity.

In that case, That oval is the same circumference as a 4" dia circle, so if you can find a scrap of 4" alum or S.S. tube, you can just squish it down into an oval.
