While I'm no expert by any means, the valves in that head didn't look sunk to me. It looked to me like maybe the chamber was cut to unshroud the valves. I don't think a longer plug would make up 10cc.

10 cc's is a cube with about 2.16 c on a side or about .85" on a side, so just think of a cube where the side is about 7/8".

Ok Mitch here you go, so as it sits your compression would be 8.4 putting it back together with a steel shim head gasket. So the cam I would recommend is the Lunati 10110700. Now if you think about having your machine guy mill the heads to try and get the CC to about 100 if possible and again using the steal shim head gasket this would put compression at 8.9 and then you could step up to the 10110701 cam.

I'll call Tim and get as much as he is comfortable taking off the heads and run with that.
I was looking at aftermarket aluminum heads for around $1200 for a long term fix, but they all have 119-121 chambers already..

You might also want to have him check valve spring pressures based on what cam you decide to make sure they will work.

Oh Yes, they will be tanked to remove all the rust inside and everything checked and reassembled correctly. I may well bring the block for the same treatment and crack check. There is a LOT of rust dust in the passages.

I have a pair of 206 ba re heads that I paid $100. Also a pair of fully rebuilt 207 that I paid $550.

Most 66 396's came with the 206 heads. I think I might have typed wrong, 702 heads on the 66 Chevelle 396's.

Nothing better to do with my time, so I was playing around with the SCR and the DCR. On your piston heads what is the volume of those valve reliefs? That seems to make a difference.
how much would you be able to shave a 206 head and sill not hit the piston, say with a cam that has a lift of .544 using a .018 shim gasket and deck clearance so .032?

No, I did however look at a Lars box before I decided to replace the worm gear and piston on my 66 gear box. Also, kind of a long drive from LC to Cambridge.

Whats new on the engine build? I am interested in the piston pin height change as it gets the piston top closer to the deck and will make your quench less without decking the block? And also increase the CR by reducing the deck volume and allow you to go with a Fel_Pro head gasket.

I don't have any particulars other than what the engine builder said. New crankshaft, rods and pistons designed for the current block height. All new valves, springs and complete valve job. He will be installing my 280H cam and Torker 2 intake...old school baby !!! I have to get new headers and am thinking about having them ceramic coated white to look like Appliance headers for a day 2 look.
