My buffer is now repaired and I am finally getting restarted on my 69. My other projects are done so I would like to get it and the 70 done before spring. If by some miracle I do get them done I would like to join the group headed to Kansas in September. We have some friends in Olathe we used to live in Kansas for a couple of years while building a Texaco refinery.
Anyhow here are some pictures of where I am on the Buff and Shine Special.
Tim BTW the Allis looks close to the CA I had with wide front and loader. Wife screamed at me for buying it used it for 5 years sold it then she screamed at me for selling it. There really is no way to please a woman.

I like the CA, my wife will drive it once in a while to cut the grass.

Thanks Kevin, I thought about fixing up the tractor but the patina look fits it nice. It takes alot to get the grease and dirt in the right places on it.
I can't wait to see your Elky painted and back together.
Looks like I might have the 69 in paint by early February. It is going well with the bodywork. I need to put it on a frame this weekend then hang all the sheetmetal for fitment and then tear it down again for paint.
Once that one is in paint and buffed I'm going to tear down my 70 and paint it again. It's going to be a busy few months here.

The paint is nice but it suffered some slight damage while in storage. Rather than blending it I would just as soon paint the whole thing. It'll take a week or two and the cost would be about the same by the time I buy the paint. I already have the clear so why I just figured why not just do it all and then get it together.
I can't make up my mind on the 69 though I'm trying to decide between black, red or orange. Any suggestions?

Tim, I have only been married for 14 and together for 16 or so and making her happy is not happening. I need to get that car over to a frame rack and just get it tugged a hair. Not much because it is so light and was hard to even find the bend.

What color is the interior going to be?
Folks have heard me say this before... but my favorite Chevelle is black, white stripes, with white/parchment interior. That combo just does it for me. Probably because that's the first one I saw when I was 13 or 14 and it really made an impression on me how cool it looked.
And... I know with your body/paint skills, it would be laser straight which shows up with black paint.

Be bold and different.....Daytona Yellow.... I would put a side stripe on it either White or Black depending on the interior color.

That's kind of my thought on it but when they are clean they are real nice,
I was going to paint it Daytona yellow when I was going to build it for my wife. Now that I got her the Vette she is out of the Chevelle picture. I like the Daytona but just not sure about it.
I took a drive up to Isanti this afternoon to get a few parts from Auto City Classics so I had alot of time to think about the color but I just haven't come to a decision. I need to look at it after I have the body assembled this weekend.
Sad thing is I'll probably just sell it within a year of finishing it. I never keep them too long.

Tim if your looking at the chance of selling it next year. I would consider painting it a color you like and you know that you can sell when the time comes as well.

I agree completely.
I am not building it specificaly to sell but I know myself. I like building them more than driving them. I get bored with them after they are done and end up getting rid of them. I've built maybe a dozen or more cars and only have one still here.

I've never understood why RED is such a big draw. Red is the second to last color of a car I would choose to buy. I guess I'm just odd in liking Blues, Yellows and Silver/Grey's.
If you really do see selling it, I would choose Monaco Orange over Red. We have 4 Orange Camaros in the Camaro club and they win plaques/trophys quite often at our car shows. The color draws people's attention.

That was Tom Beckers car. Everyone (still) talks about that car. It came up at the last gathering as well. I got to ride in Toms car with him once on the way back from Car Craft and that car pulls like a bastard with the 496 in it. I agree totally, everyone seems to hate green. Then they see Tom Beckers 72, Jeffs 69, Stans old 72, and even seeing the work Tim did on Cindys convert. I like green personally.
If you chose to paint it back to that turqoise color. I dont think you would have any problems selling it if that time came. Plus, you end up with a color that not everyone else has as well.

Busy weekend. The body is blocked again and again. I reshot the 2K this morming. Sanded the Ecoat off the new trunk lid and header panel Saturday. Made some adjustment to the header panel with the grinder and Unibit so it fits right. Put the lid and header in Epoxy Saturday and 2K today.
Dash is sanded and primered.
Body is back on the mockup frame and most of the panels are aligned but still need to do a bit more adjusting.
The frame that is going to the powder coater is torn down. I still need to remove the bushings.
Worked on the 502 engine today. Finished the clearencing and checked the zero deck. Will be flow benching the heads maybe later this week and checking the cc's.
I hate to say it but the Azure Turquoise is starting to gain on me.
Another round of block and prime completed today.

My deadline for picking a color is here so I've decided to go Azure Turquoise.
I got a few OEM parts for it today as well. My car was built in the last week of January 1969 so the parts I got should be period and sequence correct I think.
also has a 7115 crank, 3870325 balancer and original oil pan.

We finished the last blocking tonight and seam sealed everything. I need to spend Sunday cleaning and getting ready to shoot epoxy sealer. That should happen Monday. The Azure Turquoise paint was delivered today along with 2 gallons of clear and everything else I think I need. I should have a painted car by this time next week. The engine is starting to move along as well. I sure hope to make the CAC counter but it may be tight because of the current stage of both cars. I also hope the field trip to look at the other car tomorrow goes well.

Shot a coat of epoxy sealer the other day, blocked it and then put on some Azure Turquoise and 3 coats of clear. We'll be sanding it with 600 and putting 2 or 3 more coats of clear on in a couple of days.

Thanks guys. To be completely honest with you I had no intention on painting it Azure Turquoise. After reading posts from 4 or 5 of you NCC guys I started really thinking about it. The color grew on me like mold. I am really happy with the color. The more I look at it the more I like it. It would have been black, red or orange if it wasn't for this site and the people on it.

I can't wait until I take it out in the sun tomorrow. It is full of small metallic flakes.

Tim, take some pics outside in the sun so we can see how it looks. I like this color because it is so different and I'm sure it will show the lines of the car when it's all together.

Now comes the many hours of blocking and respraying and blocking and respraying and.... maybe in a week or two that part will be done.
I shot another coat of Roberlo 2K at 5 am so it will be ready for more sanding.
